Arizona criminal law involves prosecution by the government, be it in city, state or federal court, of a person for an act classified as a crime. A crime is defined as any act, or omission of an act, that violates public law established through either statute or common law. In Arizona and throughout the United States, a prosecuting criminal attorney must formally bring charges for an alleged crime against an individual or corporation. Regardless of whether the crime is a misdemeanor or a more serious felony offense, it is important to enlist the services of a top Phoenix, Arizona criminal defense attorney.

Phoenix Criminal Defense Lawyers and Attorneys

Felonies are often more serious than misdemeanors and include such crimes as white collar crime, embezzlement, mortgage fraud, homicide, aggravated assault, assault with a dangerous weapon, sexual offense, and robbery, to name a few. Felony convictions are usually punished with a year or more in prison and may result in the permanent loss of certain liberties, including but not limited to your right to vote and hold public office, receive federal scholarships and grants, not to mention the social stigma of being a convicted felon. Most crimes (with the exception of strict-liability cases) include two elements: an act, or "actus reus," and a mental state, or "mens rea." Prosecutors have to prove on a point by point basis every aspect of a crime in order to secure a conviction. At Hock Law Group, we have offices throughout Arizona and can provide clients with a criminal defense attorney who has a background in prosecution. This allows for a comprehensive dissection of the State's case and a defense specifically tailored to instill "reasonable doubt" into the mind of the jury.
